Growing up in Tysons Corner, Virginia, within a diverse array of Middle Eastern and South Asian neighborhoods, my surroundings were a melting pot of cultural experiences. Surrounded by a variety of car dealerships, ranging from the opulence of Mercedes to the allure of Italian luxury brands, this locale became my classroom. Here, I not only learned about various types of cars but also honed my automotive skills. My family's international business, focused on this industry, provided a firsthand understanding of the business dynamics at play. Traveling across the globe, I similarly sought to explore local businesses and understand how local culture interacted with business norms. These experiences enriched my understanding of global industry practices and deepened my perspective on the interconnectedness of business and culture.

My enchantment with automobiles blossomed into an interest in the automotive industry, compelling me to delve into its complex business operations, marketing strategies, and social responsibilities of automobile companies. This passion was enriched by my immediate environment, where I had the chance to acquaint myself with diverse cultures and advance my pursuits within the automotive industry. Fueled by these foundational experiences and my burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit at the age of fifteen, I took a leap and launched an interior and exterior customization, and manual car detailing service from my family’s garage. Guided by my childhood experiences buying toy cars and learning about sales tactics, I crafted a business plan targeting high-end car owners in my community.

As I continued to customize cars, my unsuccessful attempt at starting a business drove me to redirect my focus on marketing. Immersed in the world of cars, I began creating automotive content on Instagram and TikTok, connecting with a vibrant community of fellow car enthusiasts. By posting colorful photos, features, and videos, and sharing car reviews about prices and specifications, I began assisting a wider audience in making informed purchasing decisions. Utilizing my marketing skills and understanding of the Gen Z demographic, I accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers on my TikTok account (@tai_cars), garnering millions of likes. Over the last three years, my engagement here has helped me establish my expertise and credibility while allowing me to cultivate an organic connection with my audience.

I was captivated by the beauty and engineering of automobiles. Over the years, I’ve turned that fascination into a professional and academic pursuit. From organizing car shows, charities that brought together car enthusiasts to excelling as an Internet Auto Representative, I’ve developed skills in customer service, sales, and leadership. These experiences, combined with my education at the Pre- Business, Kelley School, Indianapolis, have prepared me to innovate and lead in the automotive and business industries.

• Successfully sold cars by identifying and engaging potential buyers through internet, social media posts, including features, photos and videos. Notably helped a local friend sell a Land Rover to a follower from Colorado and facilitated the sale of a Mercedes-Benz GLS 2021 for $150K to a buyer from Maryland 

• Set appointments for customers, facilitated complete transactions, and demonstrated exceptional customer care.

• Leveraged marketing skills and knowledge to grow a TikTok account (@tai_cars) to hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of likes, establishing expertise, credibility, and personal connections with the audience, ultimately driving sales and building a strong personal brand. 

• Developed a network of Tesla referrals and established strong customer relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.

  • By incorporating elements like coffee-and-cars meetups and charity-driven initiatives, I successfully created vibrant events that connected people, showcased exceptional vehicles, inspired community engagement for a greater cause, and developed management skills that ensured the show’s success.

My Experiences

Frist Year Reflection

My first year at Indiana University Bloomington has been a journey of adjustment, growth, and exploration. Moving into a new dorm and adapting to a different environment was challenging, with homesickness being a significant hurdle. However, the diverse and welcoming campus community helped me make friends from various backgrounds, allowing me to learn and grow through shared experiences. The food options required some getting used to, but I discovered new favorites over time. Supportive professors and regular check-ins provided a sense of belonging, while resources like resume-writing workshops, internship opportunities, and job search assistance have helped me build a foundation for my career. Mental health services and numerous clubs offered essential support and opportunities to connect with peers, creating a balanced and enriching experience. Overall, this year has been about finding my footing and embracing change as a means to grow.

Far from Home: Embracing Growth at IU Bloomington

​

My university journey began with a big leap—moving from Virginia to Indiana University Bloomington. The transition was both exciting and daunting. Traveling alone for the first time, I vividly remember carrying my suitcases up to my new dorm, setting up my room, and carefully arranging my bed to make it feel like home. The initial weeks were marked by homesickness as I adjusted to being far from my family and familiar surroundings. Despite these challenges, I embraced opportunities to explore campus and connect with new friends through orientation events and student activities. One of the most significant learning experiences was joining a student-led car club, where I contributed to organizing events. This helped me find a sense of belonging while learning about teamwork and leadership.

​

Throughout this journey, I discovered strengths I didn’t know I had. For instance, my ability to adapt quickly to unfamiliar situations became apparent when I navigated campus alone during the first week, finding classes and discovering quiet study spots. My friendliness also helped me make new connections, such as bonding with my roommate over shared interests. However, I also recognized my struggles with overthinking, particularly when balancing coursework with personal adjustments. During one week packed with assignments, I doubted whether I could manage everything, but through planning and seeking support from peers, I pushed through.

​

The biggest lesson I’ve learned at IU Bloomington is the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Traveling far from home, making new friends, and creating a life on campus taught me that growth comes from facing challenges head-on. Moving forward, I plan to carry this lesson with me, seeking out opportunities that stretch my abilities and broaden my perspective. My advice for next semester is to pace myself—balancing academics, social life, and rest will ensure I make the most of this transformative time.
